Glutton for Punishment
I've begun a new book, "A Mighty Heart," written by Mariane Pearl about her husband, Wall Street Journal's Danny Pearl, who was beheaded by Al Qaeda. I'm certain to be in for heartbreak, as she speaks so glowingly of the time just before his capture, she newly pregnant and they are in the throes of their passion and work. He sounds like a very bright, funny, sexy guy.

More power to you for trying to read that. I don't think I could.
Sounds a little bit painful. I recently finished "I Know This Much is True" by Wally Lamb; and now I've started "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers. I knew what I was getting into with the first, but I didn't realise that the begining of "Genius" was like the begining of Saving Private Ryan only with cancer. Someone please recommend something light, I can't take it anymore. :P
Hi Mark,
I'm good, working for a newspaper again, Big Apple Parent, writer and calendar editor! Gearing up for the basketball season. How the heck are you?
Back to the book, getting further into it, seeing all the pieces that weren't quite fitting right in the meetings Pearl had before his disappearance. I can't imagine being in her shoes, she is a pillar of strength.
I still recommend to all, for as many laughs as there are cries, David Sedaris. Guy made me laugh my ass off, but one essay about his dad really got me.
I couldn't do it either, I still cry when I think of it.
How amazing is I Know This Much Is True? Re-read Bridget Jones for light. I have some stuff I can throw your way, I have to get my Debutante Divorcee back from my cousin. You can have it when I pry it from her.
Or you can get Statements by Amy Borkowski (I hope that's the right last name, she also did Amy's Answering Machine which is hilarious). True story, the author writes her dating life story in terms of her credit card statements. For instance, she's dating a guy, drops some big money on Victoria's Secret for sexy lingerie. Breaks up with him before she can wear it, brings it all back. It's funny stuff.
